The iPhone Air 2 battery is the upgrade most Air owners have been waiting for, and a new leak finally puts a full spec sheet around it. On October 29, 2026, tipster Digital Chat Station said on Weibo that Apple’s next ultra-thin iPhone gets a bigger battery, a second 48MP rear camera, a 6.55-inch 120Hz screen and a 2nm A20-series chip. The battery figure attached to Apple’s thin phone in these leaks is 3,500mAh, about 11% more than the original Air.
Here’s why that matters now. The first iPhone Air launched in September 2025 as Apple’s thinnest phone, but buyers and reviewers kept circling back to the same two complaints: one rear camera and middling battery life. Apple then raised the Air’s price to $1,099 on September 9, 2026, so anyone shopping for a thin iPhone this holiday season faces a real choice between buying now and waiting until spring. Here’s what the leak actually promises, what 11% more battery buys you in hours, and who should wait.

What the Leak Says, and What’s Still a Guess
None of this is confirmed by Apple. The table separates what Apple has published for the current Air from what tipsters and reports claim for the Air 2.
| iPhone Air (2025) | iPhone Air 2 (rumored) | Who says so | |
| Battery | 3,149mAh | ~3,500mAh | Digital Chat Station (July and October leaks) |
| Rear cameras | One 48MP Fusion camera | 48MP main + 48MP ultrawide | Digital Chat Station; Bloomberg reported a second camera in June |
| Screen | 6.5″, 120Hz | 6.55″, 1.5K+, 120Hz | Digital Chat Station |
| Chip | A19 Pro (3nm) | A20-series (2nm) | Digital Chat Station; Bloomberg says an A20 Pro variant |
| Thickness | 5.64mm | ~5.2mm | Earlier, unnamed leaks |
| Launch | September 2025 | Spring 2027 | Bloomberg |
A tipster is a leaker with a track record of sharing unreleased specs, and Digital Chat Station is one of the most-followed in China. Its record on Apple is decent but not perfect, so we’d treat the exact numbers as likely, not settled. In fact, the 3,500mAh figure first surfaced in July, and the new post adds the screen and camera details rather than changing the battery.

iPhone Air 2 Battery Math: What 11% Really Buys You
Apple doesn’t list battery capacity for iPhones. Instead, it rates them in hours of video playback. According to Apple’s iPhone Air spec page, the current Air lasts up to 27 hours of local video and 22 hours of streamed video.
mAh (milliamp-hours) measures how much charge a battery holds. If you scale the Air’s 27 hours by the rumored 11% increase, you get about 30 hours. That’s our rough estimate, not a leak, and it lands exactly on Apple’s rating for the iPhone 17. In other words, the bigger battery alone doesn’t make the Air 2 a battery champion. It makes it ordinary.
Three things could push that number up or down:
- The 2nm chip: Apple’s newer chips usually finish the same work with less power, so the A20 could add an hour or two on its own.
- The slightly bigger screen: By our math, a 6.55-inch screen is about 1.5% larger in area than the 6.5-inch one, which costs a little power.
- The second camera: It only draws power while you shoot, so it shouldn’t affect standby or video playback much.
For context, the Air 2 would still carry about 14% less battery than the iPhone 18 Pro, which spec listings put at 4,056mAh. So if battery life is your top priority, the Air 2 still isn’t built for you. However, if your complaint about the Air is that it needs a charger by late afternoon, an extra two or three hours could fix exactly that.
How Apple Could Fit More Battery in a Thinner Body
The rumors include an odd combination: more battery and a thinner phone, with one earlier leak pointing to about 5.2mm, down from 5.64mm. That would be about 8% thinner, which sounds impossible at first.
There are two plausible explanations. First, reports say Apple is moving to a display technology called CoE (color filter on encapsulation). It removes a layer from the OLED screen, so the screen gets thinner and frees up space inside. Second, the A20 chip is built on a 2nm process. The “nm” number describes how tiny a chip’s transistors are, and smaller transistors mean the chip and its supporting parts can take up less room.

Still, we’re skeptical that Apple gets a thinner body and 11% more battery at the same time. In our view, it’s more likely the thickness stays near 5.6mm and the saved space goes into the battery. That would be the smarter trade for buyers, too.
The Second Camera Fixes the Air’s Biggest Gap, but It Only Catches Up
An ultrawide camera captures a much wider view than the main camera. It’s the lens you use for group photos, tall buildings, small rooms and, on iPhones, close-up macro shots. The current Air has none, and Bloomberg reported in June that the missing lens topped the list of customer complaints.
Adding a 48MP ultrawide would give the Air 2 the same two-camera setup the $899 iPhone 17 already has. So it closes the gap with Apple’s cheaper phone rather than opening one. There’s still no zoom lens, and the Air’s main camera only manages a 2x crop from its 48MP sensor.

The design will be the harder problem. The Air’s camera “plateau,” the raised bar across the top of the back, already houses the chip and the camera. A second lens means a wider bump or a tighter fit, and that’s one reason we expect the phone to stay closer to its current thickness.
What the iPhone Air 2 Might Cost
Apple hasn’t said, but the current price ladder sets a floor. On September 9, Apple raised several older models by $100:
| Model | Before Sept. 9 | Now |
| iPhone Air | $999 | $1,099 |
| iPhone 17 | $799 | $899 |
| iPhone 17e | $599 | $699 |
Apple didn’t explain the hikes, but the timing matches a sharp rise in memory chip costs, as AI data centers buy up supply. The same pressure hit MacBook and iPad prices earlier this year.
Based on that, our estimate is that the Air 2 starts at $1,099 or more, since Apple rarely launches a new model below its predecessor’s current price. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro already starts at $1,199. That leaves the Air 2 squeezed: just $100 below a Pro with a bigger battery and a zoom lens, and $200 above an iPhone 17 with the same camera layout.
For now, the Air 2 looks like the phone the first Air should have been. That’s good news for thin-phone fans, but it’s a correction, not a leap.
FAQs
When will the standard iPhone 18 launch?
Apple split its lineup this year. The iPhone 18 Pro models launched in September, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected in spring 2027. The iPhone 18 camera redesign leak explains what the spring model may change.
What’s the difference between the iPhone Air and Apple’s foldable?
The Air is a thin, single-screen phone. The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable, launched at $1,999 with a book-style screen. The iPhone Duo review roundup covers what that extra $900 buys.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max worth upgrading to from the 17 Pro Max?
Mostly for the camera and battery. The 18 Pro Max adds a variable-aperture main camera, a 2nm chip, and Apple’s biggest iPhone battery so far.
Will iPhones get Black Friday discounts this year?
Apple rarely cuts its own prices, but carriers and big retailers often offer gift cards or trade-in bonuses.
Can a magnetic power bank fix a thin phone’s battery life?
Mostly, yes. A magnetic pack snaps onto the back and charges as you go, although thin packs hold less. Xiaomi’s 10,000mAh magnetic power bank is only 13.2mm thick, but iPhones charge more slowly from it than Android phones.
